Mindelo, the cultural heart of Cape Verde, is also the archipelago's most popular cruise destination. Your ship will dock at Porto Grande, a deep-water port nestled within an underwater volcanic crater. The city center is a pleasant 15-minute walk from the cruise terminal. For those preferring not to walk, shuttle services are available for $5. Mindelo is celebrated for its attractive city center, featuring charming colonial architecture, cobblestone streets, and a lively array of cafés, restaurants, and vibrant nightlife. A tourist shop and public toilets are available at the port.
Getting Around from the Port
Mindelo’s city center is easily accessible by foot, just a 15-minute walk from the cruise terminal. Shuttles are offered for $5 if you prefer a ride into town. For local information and directions, a small tourist kiosk is located near the harbor, just off Av Marginal. To reach Mt Verde, the highest peak on São Vicente, a taxi is necessary as there are no public buses. A return taxi fare to Mt Verde costs approximately 12 Euro.

From here, you can enjoy panoramic views of Mindelo, the entire island of São Vicente, and the neighboring islands of Santo Antão and Santa Luzia. A return taxi ride will cost around 12 Euro. Allow for travel time and sightseeing at the summit.
